REPORT BY TANISHA CLASS 4A

MR SANDEEP NIGAM
Yesterday, a sir, Mr. Sandeep Nigam  had come to our school. He told us about universe as he was from Astronomical Club.  He told a thing which surprised me most was that moon contains water. He asked that if there will be two suns what will happen. Then maybe we won’t have night. He also told us about planets and amazing facts about Jupiter. Jupiter is the planet which has no land, it only has gases so we can never land our spacecraft on it. He also told us that Pluto is not a planet but a dwarf planet, he shared the story why Pluto is not a planet any more. He showed picture of Neil Armstrong stepping on Moon and told the name of the mission, i.e ‘Apollo 11’.  It was an enriching experience for all of us, I wish we should have more such sessions of discussion

Workshop (1)

REPORT

8th October Experience,

by Junaid Ali Farooquee 4th A

Today, Mr. Sandeep Nigam, famous science communicator and TV produce conducted a workshop on Astronomy.

The workshop started from a question, "What is a day?". Everyone shared their opinion regarding this.

My answer to this first question proved to be quite convincing to sir, he appreciated me and made my
friends clap for me. This appreciation increased my confidence and i felt to speak more.

Then Sir explained that the earth rotate on its own axis, and when one rotation is over a day is over.
Then i realised that he is going to talk about universe in today's discussion.

After that he talked about planets.I knew that there where eight planet but i didn't knew that Pluto
is called a dwarf planet! Then he talked about each planet one by one starting from the nearest planet
mercury. he told us that we are going from mercury to jupiter, but there is a problem landing on Jupiter
then i suddenly stud up and said "sir Jupiter is a gas planet". Sir war very astonished to know that i
knew about this. He seemed to be quite impressed, he asked my name.
This discussion was very interesting for me. Then sir talked abot that if Jupiter become sun, by transferring
hydrogen!! there was a lot of discussion on this idea. Some students talked about the benefits of two suns,
but I gave some some possible problems it will cause, like disturbing earth's magnetic field. This started
our conversation about magnetic field, and I asked Sir why Mars don't have magnetic field. He appreciated me
for this question and answered my question. After some more questions from children Sir showed us a video of
first man landing on moon Neil Armstrong. Then the workshop ended, and I felt that this was much more fun
than our normal classes!

8th October 2012

When sir entered in the hall, we were all very excited to know about “Universe”. He started explaining us about the Astronomical Club. Then he asked what is a day? We gave answers. And sir gave an answer too- When the earth finishes a round it is known as a day. He started telling us about planets. First he explained Mercury. He told us that it is so hot that if we go near it we may not survive. Now comes Mars. Sir told us that scientists are trying to find life on Mars. Though it is not possible for living beings to live there because the Stratosphere/Ozone layer is not available on Mars. Stratosphere/Ozone layer protects Earth from harmful rays of the Sun. He also told that water was found on Moon. Then he showed us a video clip in which Neil Armstrong was taking his first step on Moon. After the video clip he told us about Apollo 11. Sir also told us about Jupiter that life is not possible on Jupiter. Because its layer is thick and volcanoes erupt in every 1 second. Sir made us enjoy and also  took us to space.
